Maker Space and Learning in 21st Century
Students need learning skills and life-skills to succeed in the ever-changing and information-rich 21st century. The learning and teaching must focus on skills rather than knowledge. It emphasizes actions, solution acquisition, and personalization. The activities in the Starfish Maker encourage students to apply knowledge in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) in solving a problem systematically with the STEAM Design Process. The learning process allows learners to develop necessary learning and life skills for they need to thrive in the future.
The fast-pace the 21st century brings rapid changes in technology and ways of life. One needs a specific skill set to navigate and thrive.
The 21st Century Learning Skills include Creativity and Innovation, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Collaboration Teamwork and Leadership, and Communications Information and Media Literacy skills. As well as Social Emotional Skills such as Self Awareness, Self Management, Responsible Decision Making, Relationship and Social Awareness Skills. These skills can be built and developed through the Starfish Maker activities
